I have a gold chain that i wanna know if it is real or fake?

I have a gold chain that my boyfriends father bought.....I scaped it with a finger nail file and there was no change.....then i submerged it in jewelery clean and no chain.....so then i submerged it in water still no change it has a 14k gold mark on it but now i am gonna go try the make-up test and take it to a jeweler......is there anyone out there who could maybe give me another test to do to it......besides burn it cuz even if it is fake my boyfriend is all about wearing the stupid thing personally i like sterling silver but whatever i guess.....some suggestions please......
